Students Revive Local Lot

The Wirt County High School STARS group worked hard last week on preparing the Washington Street building for painting. The group has committed their time to helping turn the lot into a community garden which will launch to life late spring.  The garden has been sponsored through Community Resources, Inc. and has received funding from Parkersburg Area Community Foundation, Try This West Virginia, Matheny Family, and many more.  This project from Community Resources, Inc. comes from their new initiative to become community focused.  A key role player Amy Snodgrass stated, “A community garden is not only visually appeasing to the eye but also allows for other positive implementations to the community such as educational classes, access to nutritious foods, and engaging activities within the community garden.”

The community garden officially named, Elizabeth Community Hope Garden has been in the planning stages for 6 months.  The students at WCHS have taken the project from planning to construction stage!  With the high school students eagerly constructing the building and the local forth grade class awaiting for spring to plant flowers and vegetables citizens cannot wait to see this project and the finished product.  Stay tuned!
