PARKERSBURG – When Heather DeMetro, Community Service Specialist for Community Resources, was asked what a normal work day is like she laughed and said, “Good question.” The Wood County service office and the administration offices recently combined to one location at 1037 Market Street located in downtown Parkersburg, WV. DeMetro stated, “The services CRI provides does not necessary allow for normal, we never know what situation a client may be struggling with when they enter our doors.” Community Resources provides many services such as budgeting, utility assistance, and accountable case management.
In July of 2016 Ryan, pictured in the photo, enrolled into the accountable case management program. Ryan was interested in the program after DeMetro explained how Accountable Case Management could help anyone achieve goals on a step by step process, going on to explain the program helps keep the consumer and the case manager accountable at all times. Ryan just completed his 90 day follow up. Ryan started a savings account, paid for half his college tuition with CRI matching the other half, and maintained fulltime employment while working the account case management program. Ryan is now in his last semester of college where he will graduate with a Regent Bachelor’s Degree. He is now working with DeMetro to look into obtaining a Master’s Degree.
Account Case Management allows for clients to write down there top three goals and then develop action steps on how both Community Resources and the client can achieve them. “It makes goals seem more tangible for consumers and allows for staff to motivate and inspire clients to work hard at achieving goals” stated Demetro. Demetro has many Accountable Case Management successes and looks to have more in the future. “The success is within the client not me, I just help link the client to services and provide motivation when needed” said DeMetro.
