Shoes
On Monday we received a call from a young man who was being beaten by his father weekly. Over the years this had become the norm for his weeks. The young man explained he needed to leave, wanted to leave, that his life depended on leaving. An employee spoke with him accessing the situation and agreed to help in anyway possible. After many phone calls a bed was secured for the young man within a domestic violence shelter within KY. Our company provided direct transportation to the domestic violence shelter. Along the way more and more of the young mans life was portrayed to a staff member. The struggles of daily survival. The young man was dropped off and left with some kind words from the employee, “I know it may seem like you have nothing or no one to turn to at this moment, but we are always here for you in anyway possible. This is the first step of many to gain safety and a healthy life. Hang in there.”
To the employees surprise the young man looked up and said, “I cried because I had no shoes, then I met a man who had no feet…I may be alone but I am alive.”
