GLENVILLE- Everyday families go without electricity, food, water, and shelter. More often than not families experiencing these situations have little information on where to turn for help. Luckily, Community Resources, Inc.(CRI) has a huge presence in Gilmer County.  The local satellite office of CRI is relocating to 20 E Main Street in Glenville, WV because of rapid growth and accessibility.  Christina Junkins serves as the CRI Community Service Specialist and has provided around 2,134 services this year.  Service numbers have increased by 200 percent for the county this year.  With such high numbers Junkins stated, “It is important we have adequate and accessible space for our patrons, the new space will allow for even more growth and I could be more excited.”

CRI has been dedicated to serving the community for 31 years and is the sole community action agency for eleven counties: Calhoun, Doddridge, Gilmer, Jackson, Pleasants, Ritchie, Roane, Tyler, Wetzel, Wirt, and Wood.  CRI finds value in eliminating barriers for families in need.  Development Director of CRI, James Dismond says, “CRI is the organization for second, third, and thirty-second chances leaving the door open is our purpose.”

Because CRI is a non-profit organization, it relies on community support, financial contributions, volunteers, and partnerships. CRI promises to affirm the right of all people to adequate resources to achieve self-sufficiency and believes that people experiencing
turmoil should have availability to services capable of providing appropriate guidance and help ultimately improving the quality of life. CRI upholds this promise by providing services under their Case Management program including employment, budgeting, education, nutrition, housing, health, substance abuse recovery, and transportation. However, the assistance does not stop there. Other programs that CRI offers are Weatherization, FaithLink, Child Care Food Program, Volunteer Income Tax Assistance, Financial Counseling, and Emergency Assistance.  Junkins, “I love the residents of Gilmer County and I find it fulfilling when I am able to provide them assistance with whatever need they may have. What better way to spend your day than helping your neighbors in the community?”
